New year, new curriculum

Since the start of this year I decided it was seriously time to think about my future as an artist. I wondered if I was doing enough to get hired.  'Am I working as hard as I think I should be?' as Doug Hoppes would put it. He's such a cool guy with interesting thoughts on his career as a painter. Go check him out!

The truth is, no. I'm not nearly doing enough as I could or should to get noticed, let alone even get hired. That's why I decided to break out this year with something completely fresh and new; Female character portraits.

I'm going to step outside my comfort zone and try to learn something new. Ever since I graduated from art class last summer, there has been a significant dip in my work. I'm lacking motivation and discipline. I believe this is because I'm not challenged anymore. I need that study environment more than I thought.
Anyway below you can find part of the proces we go through. Of these four sketches I will pick one and take it further to a finished level.

About me

I am a concept artist and digital illustrator from the Netherlands. My passion is creating locations that set the stage for a story. As a young child I was often inspired by going on long hikes through the mountains of Austria with my parents and staying at the beach during summer holidays.

I was brought up with Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, cartoons, playing outside, toy cars and painting miniature models for a hobby. I also had a obsession for drawing lighthouses.

Many years later I transformed my creativity, love for nature, films, games and vehicles into a professional business.

Today I constantly observe the world around me and let nature still inspire me to paint scenes from my home country. I hope to one day incorporate my personal work into a professinal project for the game- or movie industry.
