While digging through my reference folder I stumbled across a photograph that I knew could serve as a foundation to sketch on top of. So I did. At first I just added in trees and extended the scene somewhat, but I did not think about a narrative.

This is a recurring problem in my work. It shouldn't be just about the background, even though that's what I love to paint. My work lacks storytelling!

I invested more time in this sketch and added in two figures, a rock, a sword and hey presto! Suddenly things become alive. :)

I might finish this one some time soon, but for now I will be leaving for THU2015 !

About me

I am a concept artist and digital illustrator from the Netherlands. My passion is creating locations that set the stage for a story. As a young child I was often inspired by going on long hikes through the mountains of Austria with my parents and staying at the beach during summer holidays.

I was brought up with Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, cartoons, playing outside, toy cars and painting miniature models for a hobby. I also had a obsession for drawing lighthouses.

Many years later I transformed my creativity, love for nature, films, games and vehicles into a professional business.

Today I constantly observe the world around me and let nature still inspire me to paint scenes from my home country. I hope to one day incorporate my personal work into a professinal project for the game- or movie industry.
